Ingredient Notes
Fresh vegetables: Use what you like – carrot sticks, mini bell peppers, cucumbers, sugar snap peas, celery, etc.
Crackers: Get an assortment.
Hummus: Buy it in the refrigerator section at your grocery store or make homemade hummus.
Extras: You can add anything you like – olives, cheese, fruit, nuts, dried fruit, etc.
Marinated Cheeses: If you plan to add feta cheese or another marinated cheese as an optional extra, always serve it in a small bowl rather than directly on the board. The oil and brine from marinated cheese will make crackers soggy quickly if left in direct contact.

How to Make Hummus Platter

Step 1: Pick a board – wooden cutting board, or a slab of marble or slate, even a cookie sheet will do.
Step 2: Sabra is a great brand with tons of flavors. I’ve never met a Sabra hummus I didn’t like, so feel free to try ones that sound good to you.
Step 3:Fresh veggies and a few crackers/pitas/pita chips are all you really need. Carrots, mini bell peppers, cucumbers, sugar snap peas, red onion, and mini tomatoes are always good choices.
Step 4:There are so many things you can add to your hummus board to make it unique. I like to add nuts (like Marcona almonds), olives, marinated cheese, fresh fruit (grapes or seasonal berries), and even dried fruit.
Step 5: Place the hummus containers first and anything in a bowl (such as olives and marinated cheese). Next, add your veggies, crackers, and larger pieces of fruit. Then fill in any gaps with the small things like dried fruit and nuts.
Step 6: You can add a few sprigs of fresh herbs, a sprinkle of paprika or black pepper on the hummus plate if you’d like.
Substitutions & Variations
Make it Mediterranean
Top the hummus with a drizzle of olive oil, a sprinkle of crumbled feta cheese, a handful of cherry tomatoes, pine nuts, and chopped fresh parsley. Serve with warm pita and olives for a platter with real Mediterranean character.
Serve with Mediterranean favorites
This hummus platter dish pairs beautifully with Mediterranean-inspired dishes like Mediterranean salad or Greek salad for a complete spread.
Make it a meal
Add sliced deli meats, hard-boiled eggs, and a selection of cheeses to boost the protein. This turns a snack board into a satisfying lunch or light dinner.
Swap the dip
Not a hummus fan? Substitute baba ganoush, tzatziki, white bean dip, or spinach artichoke dip for a completely different flavor profile with the same concept.
Go gluten-free
Replace regular crackers and pita chips with gluten-free crackers, rice cakes, or simply lean into extra vegetables for dipping. The platter works just as well without any grain-based dippers.
Balance the carbs
If you want to reduce carbs, use more fresh vegetables and fewer crackers or pita chips.
Add seasonal fruit
Grapes, sliced strawberries, apple slices, or dried apricots add sweetness and color. Fruit pairs surprisingly well with hummus and adds visual interest to the board.
FAQs for Hummus Platter
Plain, roasted garlic, or roasted red pepper are all great classics. Or pine nut, olive, or dill pickle would be great if you’re more adventurous. Sabra is great and has a large variety of flavors but you can use any brand or make your own hummus.
Use the vegetables that you and your family like. Try to pick a variety of textures with the vegetables, such as carrot sticks or baby carrots, grape or cherry tomatoes, and English or small pickling cucumbers cut into quarters the long way.
Don’t overthink this part. Place your hummus first and then add the veggies and crackers. This isn’t about perfection. This is casual, simple, and a little messy.
Yes. You could assemble a hummus platter a few hours ahead of time. However, I would recommend adding the crackers just before serving so they are fresh. If you also want to be able to transport it, use a rimmed baking sheet with a cover.
My Best Tips for Making Hummus Platter
☞ Meal Prep Magic: Prep a veggie box when on the weekend and then use the contents to create this hummus platter and call it dinner on a busy weeknight.
☞ Upgrade Your Crackers: Look for crackers that have interesting shapes, textures, or colors. And elevate this simple hummus platter with some homemade lavash crackers – they are super simple and very pretty.
☞Use Odd Numbers: When arranging toppings and extras, groups of three or five look more natural and visually balanced than even numbers. This is a classic styling trick that makes a real difference.
☞ Layer for Height: Stack vegetables and crackers to add dimension. This makes the platter look more abundant and visually interesting.
☞ The Time-Saving Shortcut: Save yourself some time and buy some premade hummus (usually found in or near the deli at most grocery stores).
☞ When You Want to Impress: If you have time, making homemade hummus really uplevels this hummus platter.
☞ The Pretty Factor: Getting the mini English cucumbers and multi-colored tomatoes isn’t necessary, but they look great on a hummus platter.

What to Serve With Hummus Platter
This hummus platter works perfectly as an appetizer before Mediterranean meals, grilled chicken, or fish. Pair it with a crisp white wine, sparkling water with lemon, or iced tea for refreshing beverages. For a complete spread, serve alongside a fresh salad, warm pita bread, or soup. It’s also excellent as part of a larger appetizer spread with other dips like tzatziki or baba ganoush.
Storage & Reheating Tips
Room Temperature
Serve immediately and don’t leave at room temperature longer than 2 hours (1 hour if above 90°F).
Refrigerator Storage
Remove crackers before storing and keep separately in an airtight container. Store vegetables and hummus together, covered tightly, for up to 3 days without meat or 5 days with meat. Return to room temperature 15 minutes before serving.
Freezer Storage
Not recommended, as fresh vegetables lose texture and crackers become soggy when thawed.
Make-Ahead
Prep and cut all vegetables up to 24 hours ahead. Store in airtight containers with damp paper towels to maintain crispness. Assemble platter within 2 hours of serving.
