I always keep a bag or two of frozen fries in my freezer. They are the perfect side to so many main dishes, inside my California Burrito recipe, and a big hit with everyone! Frozen fries become even easier by cooking them in the air fryer. Simply preheat your air fryer, add some olive oil and seasoning, and cook until crispy!

One of our favorite things about cooking fries in the air fryer is how easy it is to customize their flavor. Add some rosemary and salt to your fries for a light and sweet flavor, or make them bold and spicy with some cajun seasoning!

Recipe FAQs

Why do I need to preheat the air fryer?

If you preheat the air fryer beforehand, it will be hotter when you start the cooking process. This means that it will cut down your cooking time and ensure that your fries cook all the way through. Preheating your air fryer can also ensure your fries cook evenly.

What cut of french fry should I use?

It is completely up to you! We like a traditional fry, but you can use any kind of french fry. Walmart has several great options available including waffle fries, steak cut, and crinkle cut. You can also use sweet potato fries for a more vibrant flavor.

What seasonings go well with frozen french fries?

The possibilities really are endless. Try using garlic powder, paprika, onion powder, chili powder, dried oregano or rosemary to add more depth and flavor to your fries. We like playing around with different spices to find new combinations.

Expert Tips

  • You can use any brand and cut of frozen fries for this easy recipe! Some of my favorites are waffle and steak cut fries.
  • Adding a small amount of olive oil helps to coat the fries so that they crisp up in the air fryer. No one likes soggy fries!
  • You can substitute the olive oil with any other high heat oil such as coconut, vegetable, or canola oil.
  • Be sure to not overcrowd your airfryer, otherwise the airflow will be restricted and the fries may not cook evenly! Place the fries in a single layer on the bottom of the air fryer, and do not overlap. If you have to cook them in batches, you can store cooked fries in the oven to keep them warm while the other ones cook.

How to Serve and Store

When it comes to serving these fries, the possibilities are endless! You can add them as a side to many meals including easy air fryer hamburgers, homemade chicken tenders, easy beef short ribs, and slow cooker pulled pork sandwiches.

You can also make fries the main dish by providing a bunch of toppings for loaded fries! I love doing this on a busy night because it doesn’t take too much time or effort. Spoon some nacho cheese on top of the fries and have olives, pico, ground beef, diced jalapenos, sour cream, and guacamole ready to go for a hearty, flavorful meal.

If you by chance have any leftover plain fries, you can store them in the fridge for a day or two in an airtight container. Simply reheat them in the air fryer again for about 6 minutes at 390°F.

How to Make Frozen Fries in the Oven

You can always make frozen fries in the oven if you don’t have an air fryer, or already have your oven heated up and ready to go. The instructions are essentially the same, with slight changes to the cooking temperature and time.

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F.
  2. While your oven is preheating, fold the fries, olive oil, and salt together in a large bowl.
  3. Line a baking sheet with tin foil and spread the fries out so they do not overlap.
  4. Once the oven has preheated, put your baking sheet in the oven and cook the fries for 20-22 minutes, or until nice and crispy.
  5. Serve and enjoy!
