Seven layer bars are incredibly easy, sweet and made up of 7 ingredients. First, you begin with a graham cracker crumbs that turn into the crust. Then, simply layer all of the ingredients and then bake! Dessert has never been more simple or tasty.

Before you being constructing 7 layer bars, spray the pan with non-stick or even better line your pan with parchment paper. This will help remove the bars easily from the pan and make clean-up a breeze.

It will be very tempting not to do so, but for the best results make sure that the bars are completely cooled before cutting them in squares to reduce the gooey mess.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I cut 7 layer bars easily?

To ensure a nice, crisp cut when you are cutting 7 layer bars, I suggest putting the bars in the refrigerator first. Once they get more firm they will cut much cleaner.

Do 7 Layer Bars freeze well?

I have been known to eat a bar or two straight from the freezer because they taste so delicious. But yes, they do freeze very well. Cut the 7 layer bars in squares before freezing in an airtight bag or container.

Can I add or subtract anything from 7 Layer bars?

These bars are very flexible. If you aren’t a fan of coconut-leave it out. You can also use a variety of chopped nuts or even add M&Ms. The choice is yours. Get creative.

7 Layer Bars

One bite and you will realize the magic of 7 Layer Bars. Layered with all the good things: graham crackers, chocolate, white chocolate, butterscotch chips, pecans, coconut and drizzled with sweetened condensed milk to top it off. These bars are super easy, rich and will hit the spot!
Prep: 20 minutes
Cook: 25 minutes
Total: 45 minutes
Servings: 24

Ingredients

  • ½ cup butter,, melted
  • 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs, (one package/sleeve or 9 sheets of crackers)
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk, (14 oz.)
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup butterscotch chips
  • 1 cup shredded coconut
  • 1 cup pecans, chopped

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Crush the graham crackers (you can crush them right in their sleeve they came in if you don't do it too aggressively) taking care that they are all crushed to small pieces, chunks of cracker crumbs will cause your bars to fall apart. Spread graham cracker crumbs evenly in the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  • Pour the butter evenly over the graham cracker crumbs in the pan and give it a little stir to coat evenly. Using your hand or the bottom of a measuring cup, press the crumbs into the bottom of the pan.
  • Pour sweetened condensed milk evenly over the crumb layer.
  • Sprinkle the chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, and butterscotch chips evenly over the sweetened condensed milk.
  • Sprinkle with shredded coconut and then the chopped pecans. Gently press these layers into the pan.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the coconut is lightly browned. Cool before cutting.
  • Store loosely covered at room temperature.

Notes

  • The fun part about magic cookie bars is they are super flexible, don’t like something, omit it or sub it for something else.  The graham crackers, butter, and sweetened condensed milk are the only nonnegotiable, everything else you can play with. We’ll often add M&M’s to the top instead of nuts.
