Recipe FAQs

Why is my sauce clumpy?

Don’t forget to make sure that your flour is completely combined with the butter. Doing so will help prevent clumps from forming in your sauce later in the recipe. It is also important to make sure you stir the sauce continually until it thickens. If you step away for a few minutes then it can cause the sauce to burn to the bottom of the pan and thicken inconsistently.

How should I use this sauce?

This delicious recipe makes enough alfredo sauce to coat two 12-inch pizza crusts. In addition to using this sauce on your pizza, you can use it as a dip for breadsticks. We love to keep a bowl of this sauce on the table for people to use as a dip with their pizza crust. No matter how you use this sauce, it is sure to add depth and flavor to your dish!

Expert Tips

  • It is important to stir your sauce constantly to prevent it from burning or sticking to the bottom of the pan.
  • If you have fresh garlic then feel free to use 2-3 cloves of fresh garlic instead.
  • Make sure your butter and flour are fully combined. This will help thicken your sauce and ensuring they’re combined will prevent your sauce from becoming clumpy.
  • If you don’t have half and half then you can use whole milk or heavy cream. You can also prepare some makeshift half and half by combining equal parts whole milk and heavy cream.
  • Freshly grated parmesan cheese will melt down a little better than the bottled parmesan cheese does, but feel free to use whatever you have on hand.

How to Store Your White Pizza Sauce

We recommend using this sauce as soon as it is prepared. If you aren’t going to use it immediately then you can store your sauce in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. It is important to note that if you end up storing your sauce in the fridge then it will thicken up a bit more as it sits. To reheat your sauce, simply add it to a small pot or pan along with 1-2 tablespoons of cream or milk. Stir the sauce continually over medium heat until it reaches your desired consistency and is warm.

Serving Suggestions

This easy-to-make alfredo sauce goes great with a variety of pizza toppings. One of our favorite ways to dress up this pizza sauce is by adding some grilled chicken strips, bell peppers, mushrooms, and mozzarella cheese. The sharpness and richness of the sauce does a great job of complimenting whatever ingredients you want to pair with it, so get creative and try out different topping combinations! We found that this recipe made enough sauce for two 12-inch pizzas.
