My 2 Best Tips For How To Freeze Eggs

  1. Really Get The Eggs Beat: If doing a bulk freeze, you’ll put all of the eggs in the same bowl and beat them super well so that all of the eggs are incorporated. For freezing single eggs, beat each egg well, pour it into the freezer container, then do the next one.
  2. Bulk Prep: I prefer to freeze eggs in bulk since I’m already getting the dishes dirty! I usually freeze 12 mixed together for scrambled eggs (how many we eat in one sitting) and I’ll also freeze individual eggs (in an ice cube tray) to use in recipes.

Freezing eggs is a great method in preserving the life of an egg. It is a great way to reduce waste and have eggs on hand for breakfasts or baking.

You can freeze in bulk (I typically freeze a batch of 12 for scrambled eggs) or just freeze a single egg for baking purposes.

You can freeze a whole egg, the yolk or just the whites depending on what you are needing. There are so many options!

You can use frozen eggs for basically anything you’d fresh eggs for like omelets, frittatas, soufflés, breakfast casseroles or just eat as plain scrambled eggs.

Next time you have a bunch of eggs that you aren’t going to use, crack em, mix em and throw em in the freezer. Freezing eggs is a great tool to have in your tool bag!

How to Freeze Eggs

Instructions 

  • Freezing eggs in bulk is super simple. First crack however many eggs you want into a large mixing bow. I usually freeze 12 mixed together for scrambled eggs which is how many we eat in one sitting. I'll also freeze individual beaten eggs to use in recipes.

  • Use a fork to break up each yolk and beat to fully combine the egg(s). If you are making a larger container for scrambled eggs, beat all 12 together. If you are just beating one together, do it in a small bowl. You want the eggs to be mixed well and about the same color.

  • That’s it! I don’t add anything else. Pour the eggs into a freezer safe container, label it, and place in the freezer for scrambled eggs. Place in a large ice cube tray or silicone muffin tray for 1 egg. Freeze the ice cube tray until solid and then remove and store the frozen individual eggs in a zipper topped freezer bag.

  • When you are ready to thaw, you need to think ahead a bit. Take the eggs out of the freezer and place in the fridge the day before, or it will take about 10 hours to thaw on the counter. Once eggs are thawed, they should be used within a 24 hour time frame.
  • Use the fully thawed eggs just like you would a fresh egg — cook into scrambled eggs as usual or add to your recipe.

Notes

  • Silicone muffin or ice cube trays are really great for the single eggs. It’s much easier to get the frozen egg out of them than just a normal ice cube tray or muffin tin.
  • When freezing eggs for scrambled eggs, just freeze the amount that you normally cook. If your family eats 6 eggs scrambles normally, just mix 6 together.
  • Properly stored frozen eggs can last up to 12 months in the freezer. For best quality, use them within 6 months. Always label your containers with the date so you know how long they’ve been stored.
  • For even quicker morning meals, pre-mix eggs with diced vegetables, cheese, or herbs before freezing in muffin cups for instant mini-frittatas!
