Make the perfect Sourdough French Toast with this easy 15-minute recipe! Transform day-old bread into golden, fluffy breakfast magic using simple ingredients you already have — the perfect base for creamy butter and sweet maple syrup.
Whisk together the egg, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon in a large mixing bowl until mixed well.
Heat a large pan or skillet over medium-high heat for a few minutes.
While the pan is heating up, dip your bread slices in the egg mixture, ensuring they are evenly coated and soaked into the bread.
Add a little bit of butter or nonstick cooking spray to the pan and then add 1-2 pieces of French toast to the pan.
Cook each side for about 1-2 minutes, or until golden brown.
Serve immediately with syrup, powdered sugar, or fresh fruit.
Notes
Make More Servings: This recipe is perfect for two people to have french toast as an entree or for 4 people to have it as a side. You can also very easily multiply this recipe. Just add an extra egg, ¾ cup of milk, 1 teaspoon of vanilla, and a pinch of cinnamon for every additional 4 pieces of bread you use.Best Bread: You can use store bought or homemade sourdough for this recipe. Store bought sourdough will need a little extra time to soak up the milk mixture. You want to make sure the bread is lightly saturated and that it isn’t just coated on the outside. This will lead to a dry french toast.Add Protein: One of our favorite modifications to make to this recipe is adding protein powder. You can whisk a serving or two of protein powder to the egg mixture for some extra nutrients. Just make sure you whisk thoroughly and break up any clumps of protein powder in the mixture.Fun Serving Style: We like to serve this french toast bar style with a wide variety of toppings for people to choose from. Feel free to get creative and have fun with what toppings you put on your french toast.Storing Leftovers: French toast is best served fresh, which is one of the reasons I made the recipe reflect only a small amount of servings. With that being said, you can store any leftover french toast in the fridge for up to 5 days. Reheat 1-2 slices in the microwave for about 20 seconds, or until warm. The flavor is still great when reheated; it's just the texture that is a little different.
