Oreo Balls are bite-sized delights full of creamy goodness and chocolatey perfection. With just a few simple ingredients you'll be on your way to dessert heaven.
1packageOreo cookies(14.3 ounces, original cookies)
8ouncescream cheese(at room temperature)
1packagedipping chocolate(10 ounces, or chocolate chips)
Instructions
Gather your ingredients. Make sure your cream cheese is at room temperature to make it easier to mix with the Oreos.
Take a food processor and add the entire package of Oreos. Pulse until the cookies are turned into a fine crumb. This will make the balls easier to form and provide a smoother texture.
To the food processor, add the cream cheese. Pulse until the mixture is fully combined and it forms a sort of 'dough'. It should be thick and clumpy at this stage.
Use a small ice cream scoop or a spoon to portion out the mixture. Roll each portion in your hands to form a ball and place them on a tray lined with parchment paper.
Place the tray with the balls into the freezer and let them chill for at least 30 minutes. This helps the balls to hold their shape when dipped in the melted chocolate.
While the balls are chilling, melt your dipping chocolate according to the instructions on the package. You can use a microwave or a double boiler for this.
Once the chocolate is melted, remove the balls from the freezer. Using a fork or a chocolate dipping tool, dip each ball into the melted chocolate, making sure they are fully coated. Place the dipped balls back on the parchment paper.
You can add an additional drizzle of chocolate over the dipped oreo truffles for a pretty look.
Let the Oreo balls sit until the chocolate is completely set. This could take from a few minutes to a couple of hours depending on the temperature of your room.
Once the chocolate is set, store the Oreo balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator or the freezer.
Notes
If you're using chocolate chips instead of dipping chocolate, you may want to add a bit of vegetable shortening or coconut oil to the chips while melting. This can help thin out the chocolate a bit and make it easier for dipping.
When melting the chocolate, make sure not to overheat it as it can seize and become difficult to work with. Melt it slowly and gently, stirring frequently.
Experiment with different types of Oreos for different flavors, like Mint Oreos or Golden Oreos.
Decorate your Oreo balls with sprinkles, drizzled white chocolate, or crushed Oreos while the dipping chocolate is still wet for a festive touch.
Oreo balls should be stored in the fridge and can last for up to 2 weeks when properly stored. If freezing, they can last up to 2 months. Make sure to let them sit at room temperature for a few minutes before eating if they are coming out of the freezer.
