Clean, peel, and slice the carrots into ¼-inch thick pieces.
In a skillet, combine the carrot slices with water, salt, and pepper. Boil over medium-high heat for about 10 minutes until the carrots are tender but still slightly crispy.
Drain the water from the skillet.
Add butter, brown sugar, and maple syrup to the skillet. Stir and bring to a boil over medium heat.
Reduce the heat to a simmer and cook for 8 to 10 minutes until the carrots are nicely coated and reach the desired doneness.
