Sometimes, all you need is a little inspiration to make the perfect simple turkey sandwich. This one is piled high with turkey, cheddar, avocado, and more.
Friends, I am posting a super simple yet amazingly tasty sandwich recipe. I know what you are thinking: “I’m pretty sure I already know how to make a sammich.” Let’s me explain just a bit – I know you do, but once in a while you’ll see a little inspiration and just know that you can make THAT sandwich and it’s going to make your day. I’m here to get you out of your weekend sandwich making rut.
One of my very first jobs was working at a little sandwich shop in Columbus, Indiana. I started working at The Big Cheese on Saturdays when I was fifteen. I think it was a significant start for me and very fitting to be working with food. Food is something that I’ve always loved. I used to fry thirty pounds of bacon every Saturday. 3-0 pounds. Every. Saturday. Do you have any idea how much grease that much bacon produces? Around three gallons. Yeah, that’s a lot. I would have to leave my clothes out for my mom to wash, and shower as soon as I got home, because the smell of bacon was so strong. My car would even smell like it from my fifteen minute drive home once a week. So much bacon! I learned how to make a great sandwich though.
The best part of the job was the free sandwich I was allowed to make for my lunch each Saturday. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t spend a considerable about of time thinking about all my options and creating the perfect sandwich for the day.
My affinity for sandwich making lives on today. I’ve definitely don’t make a gourmet sandwich for every lunch, but once in a while I’ll get a craving for a really good sandwich and by golly, I sure know how to make one. The Ultimate Turkey Sandwich is one perfect sandwich, and I hope you make one soon! I love all the different layers and toppings. That tomato basil cheese from Cabot is one that I get all summer long, and it just goes so well with everything. It adds a lot of flavor, so don’t skip it.
Like most things, this sandwich will be best if you go for some high quality ingredients. I really like Dave’s Killer Bread for sandwiches (it’s cut nice and thin, which I love), and if you have a garden tomato around, it’ll change everything.
Instead of going out to lunch, treat yourself to this fun turkey sandwich and bask in the joy of a perfectly executed sandwich from home.
