In reply to Eryn. I'd give it to them as soon as you like. You could wait a week or two but you'll be shocked at how fast they grown! If they had a momma hen she's be taking them out into the yard to teach them how to scratch and peck in the grass when they were about a day old. I think if it's ok for them to eat things like that very young then a few little treats from you will be great! Enjoy!! You will love having chickens.

Hi Melissa! We just got our girls 2 Buff Orpington chicks on Friday and are adoring them so far! One question, how old were your chicks when you started giving them treats? I love the watermelon suggestion, but don’t want to give it too early. Thanks for sharing!

I’ve had my first ‘flock’ of chicks about a week. They are such a hoot. I find my housework has suffered, as I enjoy just sitting out I. The yard and watching them. They are still in a converted large dog crate in our garage right now, but I put them out in a make-shift run when the weather is warm enough. Please continue to share!!! I have much to learn.

Boys do have the bigger, redder combs. When you put them together, do it at night when the big ones are asleep. Then they all wake up together. Short term memory chickens.
