I just made these for a book club gathering in a couple of days. We are reading “Braiding Sweetgrass”, and two of the indigenous peoples’ foods she discusses are maple syrup and pecans. I am trying to serve several foods related to the book, and these Maple Pecans hit two of them in a unique way. Plus they are absolutely delicious, and incredibly easy to make! Such a big pay-off for not much effort at all. I used Trader Joe’s roasted and salted pecan halves, and real maple syrup. The slightly salty taste of the TJ’s pecans was a perfect addition – I love the combination of sweet and salty in anything. Thanks for thus recipe! PS I am using a variation on one of your dip recipes to make a dip that features the “Three Sisters”: corn, beans, and squash. Can’t wait to make that!

Why do you need real maple syrup? I have Mrs. Butter worth. Can I use it?

In reply to Helen Lonet Bennett. I think you'd be surprised at how not "mapley" they taste, but no I haven't tried them with anything else, you'll probably just want to find a candied nut recipe that uses granulated sugar.

Can you use anything else besides maple syrup? none of my family likes maple syrup.
