I love that you shared this story. It brought tears to my eyes! My mom always made black raspberry pies. I purchased some black raspberries from a farm in Michigan and they were shipped to me in a styrofoam cooler with ice packs. They were a bit pricey, but sometimes only black raspberries will do when wanting to recreate this dish. I am going to use your grandma’s recipe tonight!

I just had to share your story with my cousin and aunt. We were lucky to have my grandparents in our life and have so many great memories. I just wish I had thought to write to them and let them know how much they were loved. Your story really touched my heart, and thank you for sharing it!

Aww. This made me tear up! I had a rotten, terrible, no-good relationship with my grandparents (who are both gone now), so this is so refreshing to hear about a good grandpa being a good man. And the cobbler looks amazing!

What a touching post. Your letter was perfect and your grandmothers cobbler looks amazing. My Grandpa was in the navy as well…. he lied about his age because his mother wouldn’t sign the papers for him to join. He is also from Indiana!!! He passed away in 2007 2 weeks after my first son was born so I was unable to go to the funeral or to go see him while he was sick. Breaks my heart every time I think about it.
