Cheddar Biscuits

Biscuits are so much easier to make than your typical bread recipe. They require no yeast and are considered more of a quick bread like banana bread. You don’t even need to worry about anything rising!

I love homemade cheddar biscuits because they will be done from start to finish in under 30 minutes. Don’t over mix the dough because that tends to create a more tough biscuit, but we are going for light, soft and fluffy.

Pair these with the amazing Zoup! Good, Really Good® Garden Vegetable Soup for one simple satisfying meal. The soup features a medley of vegetables (tomatoes, green beans, chickpeas, sweet potatoes, spinach, and peppers!) plus a balanced blend of spices. Made with Zoup! Savory Veggie Broth, it’s packed with fresh flavor and hearty texture.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What goes good with cheddar biscuits?

There are so many options for serving cheddar biscuits. A few ideas include serving them with scrambled eggs or a breakfast casserole. My personal favorite is to serve them with a bowl of hot soup or a seafood dish.

Do cheddar biscuits need to be refrigerated?

IF you have leftovers, which is highly unlikely, you can store cheddar biscuits in an airtight container at room temperature.

Why do I want the butter to be cold when making cheddar biscuits?

Cold butter is a must for churning out the best biscuits. Really cold butter makes the biscuit flaky and the texture perfect. I cut the butter into small pieces and freeze it for 10 to 15 minutes. This extra step really does make a big difference in the biscuit flavor and flakiness.

Why are my biscuits gummy?

When the texture of your biscuits is really gummy then something is off. It could be that the butter wasn’t cold enough when you began mixing.
If the butter is warm, it will create a sticky, undesirable texture when mixed with the flour.

  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ cup cold butter
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 2 cups grated cheddar cheese, (8 ounces)

For garlic toppings

  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped parsley

  • Preheat your oven to 450 degrees F. and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a baking mat.

  • Bake until golden brown, about 15 minutes.
  • While the biscuits are baking add the melted butter, garlic powder, and parsley to a small bowl and mix with a fork.
