    Five Minute Ranch Crackers Recipe

I grew up with a huge extended family near me and I loved it! In my small graduating class of 68 people, two were my cousins. My dad is one of thirteen, and many of his siblings chose to have big families too. Lucky for me, we all grew up in the same tiny town in Southern Indiana. How does a family that big celebrate Christmas? By renting out some kind of large building and filling it with people, food, and laughter.

I have so many great memories of those Shoaf family Christmas parties. When I was younger, we would rent out an old community center. Everyone would bring something to share, and the aunts would have games and crafts for the kids. As the family grew, so did the venue. We would rent out the local ice skating rink, bowling alley, or roller skating rink and fill it to the brim.

My Uncle Jeff is a hog farmer. He's bald, a little round in the middle, and looks just like you'd picture a happy hog farmer in Southern Indiana to be. He's funny and always has a story to tell. I remember vividly the first time I saw my uncle ice skate. He was amazing!

Then there's my Uncle Julius (fun fact: all thirteen of my grandma's kids' names start with the letter "J"). He's a tall skinny bean-pole with a thick head of red hair. He wasn't just a great roller skater; he could skate backwards! My cousins and I loved discovering these amazing hidden talents that our aunts and uncles had been hiding from us for years. Who knew that they could be so athletic and silly? My young mind just could not imagine how they ever got to be so good at roller skating... they were just farmers after all.

When we were done laughing and falling on our tails, we would eat. Every family would bring their favorite finger food and we'd eat all night long. My mom makes a great seven layer dip, someone (Joanna I think) would make Mexican wedding cakes, and Uncle Jack brought the best peanut butter fudge. And then there were these savory salty little oyster crackers that Aunt Stephanie made. I loved them and still do. This is the recipe I have for you today! My Aunt Stephanie's oyster cracker recipe.

They are so very easy and so very addicting. I promise you won't be able to stop at just one handful. Plan on making these for your next party, gathering, or movie night, because you'll want someone to share them with. If not, you might end up eating 90% of the batch by yourself because they were sitting in the kitchen looking at you.

Not that I know from experience.

These are simple, super tasty, and eat a lot like a chip or a Chex mix. Here's the best part - you just mix it and go. AND you can make them a day ahead.

    Description

These 5 Minute Ranch Crackers are so very easy and so very addicting! I promise you won't be able to stop at just one handful.

    Ingredients

    Scale
    • 2 package oyster crackers (18 ounces total)
    • ½ cups of oil (vegetable, olive, or canola)
    • 1 tablespoon dill
    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
    • ¾ teaspoon onion powder
    • 1 teaspoon Worchestshire sauce

    Instructions

    1. Add the oyster crackers to a large bowl.
    2. In a small bowl mix the oil, dill, garlic and onion powder, and Worchestshire sauce together. Add the mixture to the crackers and stir to combine well. Let the mixture rest for 10 minutes and then stir again.
    3. Place the crackers on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees F. for 5 minutes. Toss lightly when they come out of the oven and allow to cool before serving.
    4. These improve with time so you can make them up to a day in advance.

Even though I have four kids, I still feel like we are figuring out our traditions. I love to hear how others celebrate though.

How big is a package of crackers? That seems like a lot of oil but maybe I don't know what it's covering. Favorite traditions...Ty's mom's Christmas candy. One year I want to go early and learn to make it.
