Easy Red Velvet Sandwich Cookies

Easy Red Velvet Sandwich Cookies are pretty-in-pink crowd-pleasers that are perfect for Valentine’s Day. With Valentine's Day just around the corner, I wanted to share a few sweet recipes with you, and these Easy Red Velvet Sandwich Cookies topped the list. I like this recipe because I love sandwich cookies, they are such a perfect color for Valentine's Day, and they are easy! You know that I'm not afraid of using a box of cake mix to "cheat" a little on a recipe, and this recipe is one that starts with a cake mix too. Hooray for taking a short cut once Continue Reading →

Valentine’s Mailbox for the Whole Family

Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Target and you know I've been squealing with joy over the chance to work with them. It's TARGET! Thanks for supporting the companies that I choose to work with. You all are the best. A few years ago I made a Valentine's Mailbox for my whole family to use. It was easy, fun, and has turned into a tradition that my kids start asking about as soon as Christmas is over. The reason they love this mailbox so much is because it gives them a chance to serve and to show love in a nontraditional way. My Continue Reading →

Queen of Hearts Chex Mix

It's the twelfth of the month already and you know what that means? 12 bloggers, 12 recipes, 12 ingredients or less and a whole lot of fun. This month's theme is just perfect for Valentine's: hearts! Here's a little sneak peak at what all of the other bloggers brought to the party and the links to all these recipes are at the bottom of the post. Feel free to check any or all of them out. I decided to make a quick and easy Chex Mix that has lots of conversation hearts and heart sprinkles. This pink Chex Mix is sweet, sticky, Continue Reading →

Double Chocolate Cherry Cordial M&M Cookies

I love enjoying foods in their proper season. The kids begged my to buy a watermelon last week at the grocery store and I told them no. Watermelon is not meant to be eaten in February. I explained to them that it is a "summer food" and things taste even better when you have to wait a little while to enjoy them in their proper season. Candy follows a similar pattern in my life. I love Cadbury Mini Eggs at Easter, candy corn at Halloween, English toffee at Christmas, and cinnamon lips at Valentine's. Having to wait all year to enjoy Continue Reading →

Pretty in Pink Valentine’s Popcorn

Valentine's is just around the corner! Today I'm sharing a lovely and delicious Valentine popcorn treat. It's quick, easy, super cute, and makes a big batch. This is the perfect thing to bring to a party, make for your kids to enjoy after school, or divvy it up into those fun little cellophane bags to surprise your neighbors. This popcorn is sweet and sticky. It has conversation hearts and sprinkles hiding in it, and it's a lovely shade of light pink. Things that are sweet, pink, and full of hearts are always a good thing in my book. Now all you have to Continue Reading →

Grandma’s Raspberry Cobbler

black raspberry cobbler recipe, cobbler recipe

I'm taking one more day to celebrate my grandpa's life... and that celebration comes in the form of food. I've decided to share a piece of my heart with you by sharing part of the last letter I ever wrote to my grandpa. Grandma said that she sat on the bed and held his hand last Sunday, the day before he died, and read it aloud to him. She told me he was sleeping but she was sure he was still listening. The letter helps to explain this dish and its deep sentimental meaning for me. Grandma makes this raspberry cobbler Continue Reading →

Family Valentine’s Mailbox

It's Friday, Friday, Friday... (whatever happened to that girl?!). This post ins't quiet the perfectly executed craft with the perfect pictures to match. This is a real life post with real life pictures to match but it was something I really wanted to share with you. I love Valentine's Day and I have my whole life. I have a few favorite memories of the day and if you'll let me I'll indulge in telling them to you. Memory 1: In second or third grade we were asked to make a Valentine's mailbox to hold the valentines our friends gave to us. I remember making a Continue Reading →

Brownie Cheesecake Bars

cheesecake bars, chocolate and cheesecake, brownie and cheese cake dessert

Remember those those red velvet cheesecake bars from heaven? Well I wanted to make them again but I was out of red dye. I think that is my beef with red velvet things; I'm not a fan of using so much dye just because. Any how, I got to thinking and decided that the recipe would be a great candidate for a bit of tweaking to make the red velvet layer a brownie layer and boy was I right. With a few changes Brownie Cheesecake Bars were born. I preferred these to the original because I love chocolate. If you Continue Reading →

Painted Heart Valentine’s Craft for Kids

Remember when I showed you my cute hutch decorated for Valentines? Well I mentioned that my kids did the art work at the top. I thought I'd show you how in case you wanted to make something similar. This would be a fun thing to do for a decoration, with a class or preschool group, or to make a big card to send to grandma. Painted Heart Valentine's Craft for Kids What you'll need: Heavy card stock or cardboard Washi tape or painter's tape Paint (we used acrylic but tempra or water color on white paper would probably work well too) Paint brushes Paper plates The color of Continue Reading →

Red Velvet Cheesecake Bars

red velvet bars, red velvet dessert with cheesecake, cheesecake with rec velvet, Valentines dessert

When it comes to dessert I rarely make a recipe twice. We make our favorite chocolate chip cookies and normal old rice crispy treats over and over again, and if I make something else it is generally a new recipe. I saw this gorgeous red velvet cheesecake bar recipe on Novice Chef last year and never made them, but I've thought of them often. I'm not a big red velvet fan, but they are just so pretty. So last week when we had my father-in-law, BFF Shaun, neighbor, and his nephew over working on the house plus two missionaries from Continue Reading →

Valentine’s Hutch and Orange Dreamsicle Popcorn

Can you believe it's Monday already?! My weekend flew by and I'm sure yours was no different. We ordered all of the carpet for the second half of the house which is just crazy to me. Carpet is one of the very last things to go in, so if we are even thinking about the carpet then we really must be making progress. All of the drywall is now hung in the once-upon-a-time bonus room/soon-to-be master bedroom, and if you follow me on FB, then you know we are completely done tearing things out as of this weekend! We gutted Continue Reading →

How to: Felt Heart Garland

felt valentines wreath, how to make valentines wreath, wreath ideas for valentines, DIY valentines heart wreath

Hello! Man, once again, it's been such a busy week on the blog and I didn't even post every day. Manually inputting all my recipes is a beast. I've been doing that along with reformatting each post from the last year. I took the cheap-skate route for switching to WordPress and that means I've needed to put in a lot of my own hours to make things look ok. Phew, it'll be done by Valentine's Day I hope. Speaking of Valentine's Day, do you decorate? The kids and I normally make a few things to hang up, but I've never done any Continue Reading →

Chocolate Covered Banana Hearts

Today's post is brought to you by the letter 'V'. Preschool was at my house today. Six little ones make for a busy afternoon, but it's always hilarious. Aside from our usual things, we made Valentines for their moms and dads. They traced and cut out their hands which we put inside of a card, attached to a paper folded accordion-style. The front said "I love you" and the inside said "THIS MUCH" with the little hands springing out when opened. They turned out cute. This was for their dads. For the moms I had them fill in the blanks to a love Continue Reading →

How to: Healthy Valentine Treats to Give Away

Ooo! I've seen so many cute ideas for Valentine's Day! I've loved all of the cute sayings and things that are attached to a treat. One thing I noticed though is that not too many were the kinds of treats that I would want my kids to come home with. I have a hard time giving out things that I wouldn't want in return. Now don't get me wrong. I love sugar, but they just get SO much in one day. Why not be the one to provide a little non-sugary treat? Healthy Valentine treats anyone? So here are some great healthy(ish) snacks to Continue Reading →

14 Day Countdown to Valentine’s Day

Thomas and I the summer we met:   Valentine’s Day is just around the bend! I’ve been thinking a lot about the holiday and fun ways to celebrate. Things in my life revolve heavily around my children. It isn’t always consciously - having 3 little ones 4 years old and younger is naturally time consuming. When I’m not playing with them or feeding them, I’m cleaning up our messes from playing and feeding them. It seems to be a never-ending cycle! When I am not doing something with or for my kids, I’m working on my house; remodeling is also no small chore. There Continue Reading →

Valentine's Day is in the air! Can you feel it?!? Here is a quick and SUPER cute way to make a little something to dress up your home! How to: Heart Paper Chains What you'll need: Pretty paper- I used a regular weight and a cardstock, both worked equally well. This is a perfect use for double-sided paper. No double-sided? No big deal. Glue Stick Scissors 1. Collect supplies like this pretty paper: 2. Fold one sheet of paper in half. 3. Cut paper into 1 1/2 inch wide strips. You can use a fancy paper cutter or just wing it. I was in a wing it mood. 4. Continue Reading →
