My heart is so broken for the family of Alice Hansen. She died this week, just a few days after giving birth to her third child, her first little girl. I know Alice’s sister-in-law, Heidi, from my Provo days and she’s asked everyone to spread the word on a fund they have set up in Alice’s name. Alice left behind her husband, who is a student in the MBA program at BYU, and children who are only 3, 1, and a week old. The money will go to help out with medical and funeral expenses, and my hope and prayer is that they will raise enough for that poor dad to finish his last year of school without having to worry about a job to support his family.
Now, I know money doesn’t grow on trees and most of us are in a tight spot, but here’s the way I see it. If we all forgo cold cereal for breakfast and eat oatmeal for a week, $5 could be donated without much stress. Skip eating a meal out and make that number go up to $20. Enough small donations add up. I just encourage you to do what you can, and if that isn’t monetary, please keep them in your prayers. Prayers go a long way, too.
Thanks so much for your help. I know that their family appreciates all of the support and love during this heart-breaking time. I can’t read her story without crying; I can’t imagine how it feels to them. Alice’s beautifully worded obituary can be read here.
Donations can be made on Heidi’s blog, on the right hand side – Honey Bear Lane
Have a good weekend and let’s all remember to hug our own babies and husbands a little tighter tonight.
